Most sellers who outgrow their home market head straight for Amazon or eBay. But four marketplaces quietly dominate regions that Western sellers rarely look at: Mercado Libre across Latin America, noon in the Gulf, Trendyol in Turkey and its expanding international footprint, and Allegro in Poland and Central Europe. Together they serve hundreds of millions of shoppers, and every one of them has its own image rulebook.
The problem is not that the rules are hard. The problem is that they contradict each other. Trendyol wants tall 2:3 portrait images. Mercado Libre wants squares. Allegro will accept almost any background in the gallery but insists on pure white for the thumbnail. If you upload the same folder of 2000 x 2000 white-background squares to all four, you will get rejections on some and lazy-looking listings on others.
This guide sets out what each platform actually requires in 2026, where they clash, and how to build one master image that feeds all of them.
The four platforms at a glance
| Platform | Region | Recommended main image | Min / max dimensions | Max file size | Images per listing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mercado Libre | Latin America (BR, MX, AR, CL, CO +) | 1200 x 1200 px square | Min 500 px on the long side; max 1920 x 1920 px | 10 MB | Up to 12 (varies by category; often 10 per variation) |
| noon | UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt | 1000 x 1000 px or larger, square | At least 1000 px on one side to enable zoom | Check category guidelines; keep under 5 MB | Minimum 2; more angles strongly encouraged |
| Trendyol | Turkey, Gulf, parts of Europe | 1200 x 1800 px portrait (2:3) | Min 600 x 800 px accepted | 2 MB is the safe ceiling (some routes allow 5 MB) | Typically up to 8 |
| Allegro | Poland, Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary | 2000 x 2000 px square | Min 500 px on the long side; max 2560 x 2560 px | No published byte limit; max 26 megapixels | 10 (private), 16 (business), 40 for automotive and property |
Mercado Libre: square, clean and 75 to 85 per cent full
Mercado Libre is the largest e-commerce platform in Latin America and its image validation is stricter than most sellers expect. The cover image must sit on a pure white background (#FFFFFF), digitally cut out rather than shot against a grey-ish sheet, and this is enforced hardest in Electronics, Beauty, Health and Grocery. Fashion and Home categories are more forgiving and will accept a plain light grey or beige, provided there is no gradient or texture.
What gets a Mercado Libre image rejected
- Any text on the cover image, including price, "free shipping", size labels or promotional badges
- Seller logos, watermarks and decorative borders
- Collages or multiple views crammed into the main image
- Products that float in a sea of white space, or crop off the edges
Aim for the product filling roughly 75 to 85 per cent of the frame. Mercado Libre also applies a "smartcrop" step that trims excess background, so an over-margined image will be recropped in ways you did not choose. Anything wider than 800 px activates the zoom widget on the product page, which is why 1200 x 1200 px is the number to target. Uploading beyond 1920 x 1920 px is wasted effort: the platform will downscale it.
noon: the Gulf's zoom threshold is 1000 pixels
noon operates across the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt, and its seller SKU rules are built around one hard threshold: images need at least 1000 pixels on one side for the zoom function to activate. Below that your listing simply loses zoom, which in a market where mobile browsing dominates is a direct conversion cost.
noon requires a pure white background for main images in almost all categories, with fashion allowed to use light grey. Lifestyle shots can keep their real backgrounds but belong in the secondary slots, never the hero. Products must occupy 70 to 80 per cent of the frame.
Two noon rules trip up sellers who import supplier assets:
- Photographs only. CAD drawings, renders, illustrations and thumbnails are rejected. If your supplier only sent you a technical render, you need a real photo.
- No accessories that are not in the box. Showing a phone inside a case you are selling, when the phone is not included, is both a rejection risk and a returns problem.
Soft, light shadows are acceptable. Hard shadows and hard reflections are not. And noon expects a minimum of two images from different angles, so single-photo listings will fail content quality checks.
Trendyol: the one that breaks your square workflow
Trendyol is the outlier. Because it is fashion-led and overwhelmingly mobile, the recommended main image is 1200 x 1800 px in a 2:3 vertical ratio, which fills a phone screen edge to edge. A 1:1 square is available for non-fashion categories, but if you are selling apparel, footwear or accessories, portrait is what the platform's layout is built for.
The minimum accepted size is 600 x 800 px, but that is a floor, not a target. Anything under 1200 px on the long side looks soft on a modern phone display. Main images need a pure white (#FFFFFF) background, with no added shadows, reflectors, text or logos.
Watch the file size: Trendyol's ceiling is tighter than the others, with 2 MB the safe number to work to. A 1200 x 1800 px JPEG at quality 80 to 85 lands comfortably under 500 KB, so this is only a problem if you are uploading unoptimised camera files straight from a phone. If you regularly need to hit a specific pixel size and file weight across several marketplaces at once, a batch tool like PixelPrep will do the resize, crop and compression in one pass rather than making you re-export from an editor for each platform.
Allegro: liberal on backgrounds, strict on the thumbnail
Allegro is Poland's dominant marketplace and takes the most relaxed view of gallery imagery. Any background colour is permitted in the gallery, and you are allowed close-ups, cross-sections and arrows pointing out features. But the thumbnail background must be pure white, RGB 255/255/255. That is the image shoppers see in search results, so it is the one that matters most.
Dimensions run from a 500 px minimum on the long side to a 2560 x 2560 px maximum, with a 26 megapixel cap. Anything longer than 2560 px gets proportionally scaled down. JPG, JPEG, PNG and WEBP are accepted, and Allegro recommends the sRGB colour profile for accurate colour reproduction, which is good practice everywhere.
Text and seller logos are prohibited, with sensible exceptions: text printed on the actual product packaging, genuine brand logos, dimensions and colour names, and certificates or legal markings. Gallery slots are generous by comparison to the others: 10 for private accounts, 16 for business accounts in most categories, and 40 in Automotive and Real Estate.
Where the rules genuinely conflict
Three real clashes to plan around:
- Aspect ratio. Trendyol wants 2:3 portrait for fashion; the other three want square. You cannot serve both from one crop without either letterboxing or losing the top and bottom of the product.
- Maximum resolution. Mercado Libre caps at 1920 px, Allegro at 2560 px. A single 2560 px master works for Allegro and gets downscaled cleanly by Mercado Libre, but shipping a 4000 px file everywhere just wastes upload time.
- File size. Trendyol's 2 MB is roughly a fifth of Mercado Libre's 10 MB. Optimise to the tightest constraint and every platform is satisfied.
The one-master workflow
Shoot or source at 3000 x 4000 px in portrait, with the product centred and generous margin on all four sides. From that single master you can derive:
- A 1200 x 1800 px portrait crop for Trendyol
- A centre-cropped 2000 x 2000 px square for Allegro
- A 1200 x 1200 px square for Mercado Libre
- A 1200 x 1200 px square for noon (comfortably over the 1000 px zoom threshold)
Shooting portrait first is the key decision. Cropping a tall image down to a square is trivial; extending a square into a 2:3 portrait means either generating background that was never photographed or shrinking the product until it looks lost in the frame.
Pre-upload checklist
- Master file shot portrait at 3000 x 4000 px or larger, sRGB colour profile
- Main image background pure white #FFFFFF (light grey acceptable for fashion on Mercado Libre and noon)
- Product fills 70 to 85 per cent of the frame, centred, nothing cropped off
- Zero text, price tags, badges, watermarks, seller logos or borders on the main image
- No collages in slot one; multiple angles go in secondary slots
- Real photographs only for noon, no renders or CAD drawings
- Nothing pictured that is not included in the box
- At least two images per listing, ideally four to six
- Every file under 2 MB so the tightest platform limit is never an issue
- Trendyol fashion listings exported separately at 1200 x 1800 px
Marketplace specifications change without much warning, so re-check the seller help centre for each platform before a large upload run. But the underlying discipline does not change: one high-resolution portrait master, a clean white cover shot, no text, and a batch export step that hits each platform's numbers exactly rather than approximately.
